Pomacanthus annularis
Not Reef Safe
The Annularis Angelfish (Pomacanthus annularis), also known as the Blue Ring Angelfish, is a majestic species known for its bold electric-blue rings that sweep across a deep brown body, accented by a soft blue-white tail. This large, visually commanding angelfish can reach over a foot in length and thrives in fish-only or FOWLR systems with experienced care. It requires a spacious tank of at least 220 gallons, filled with ample rockwork and caves for hiding and grazing. While stunning, it is not reef-safe and may nip at corals, clams, and other sessile invertebrates, particularly near their bases. Semi-aggressive and potentially territorial once established, the Annularis should be housed with tankmates that can tolerate its presence. Like most large angelfish, it is hermaphroditic, with no visible sexual differences. A well-rounded diet including sponge-based angelfish formulas, marine algae, meaty foods, and occasional live offerings like brine shrimp will support its health and vibrant coloration. With proper space and care, the Annularis becomes a bold and captivating showpiece in large marine displays.
