Burr Pufferfish
Chilomycterus schoepfii
Not Reef Safe
The Burr Pufferfish, also known as the Shoepf’s Burrfish, is a distinctive marine species notable for its spiky, ball-shaped body and the ability to inflate when threatened. It is covered in numerous sharp spines that provide protection from predators. This pufferfish is not reef safe, as it may damage corals and invertebrates with its voracious appetite and sharp beak. It requires a well-established aquarium with plenty of swimming space and hiding spots. Due to its aggressive feeding behavior and specialized care needs, it is best suited for species-only tanks or large predator setups, making it ideal for experienced aquarists.
