The Flashing Scallop has a bright red or white mantle with vividly colored tentacles. The shell of the scallop is covered in fine, gritty bumps. It builds a nest of small substrates and fragments of coral in which it hides. When threatened, it claps its valves together to propel itself through the water. It is non-photosynthetic.
