Valenciennea strigata
Reef Safe
The Sleeper Gold Head Goby (Valenciennea strigata) is a peaceful, sand-sifting species prized for its utility and striking appearance. With a golden-yellow head and a vivid blue stripe beneath each eye, this goby contrasts beautifully against its off-white body, making it both functional and ornamental in reef aquariums.
Ideal for tanks 30 gallons or larger, this species thrives in systems with a deep sand bed and a populated refugium. A tight-fitting lid is recommended to prevent jumping. While typically non-aggressive, it may become territorial toward conspecifics unless introduced as a bonded pair.
This goby plays a vital role in substrate maintenance, constantly filtering mouthfuls of sand for edible particles while aerating the substrate. Its diet should include live or frozen mysis and brine shrimp, blackworms, and prepared carnivore foods. Frequent feeding helps sustain its energy and vibrant coloration.
Hardy and helpful, the Sleeper Gold Head Goby is an excellent choice for aquarists looking to combine beauty with function in a reef-safe environment.
These fish are for saltwater aquariums only.
