The Signal Blenny is a small, personality-packed saltwater fish that stands out for its expressive face, large eyes, and distinctive cirri above the eyes. Males are typically darker in color with subtle banding and reddish-tipped cirri, while females display a more intricate pattern of lighter browns and mottled markings for natural camouflage. Native to the shallow, sandy, and rubble-filled habitats of the Gulf of California, this species naturally resides in abandoned worm or mollusk tubes, a behavior it carries into the aquarium by choosing a favorite perch to observe its surroundings. Rather than constantly swimming, it makes quick, darting movements to capture food before retreating back to its shelter. Its compact size, unique behavior, and engaging presence make the Signal Blenny a fantastic addition to peaceful reef tanks or carefully planned fish-only systems.
