Reef Safe with Caution
The Masked Bannerfish, also known as the Masked Bannerfish or the Unicorn Bannerfish, is a distinctive and attractive marine fish recognized for its elegant appearance and unique coloration. It features a white body with bold black vertical bands and a prominent black mask-like stripe over its eyes, which gives it its distinctive name. The dorsal fin is elongated and banner-like, adding to its striking look. While generally hardy, the Masked Bannerfish is considered reef safe with caution, as it may occasionally nip at soft corals, anemones, and small invertebrates if not adequately fed. Providing a varied diet and ensuring plenty of swimming space and live rock for grazing can help reduce such behavior. The Masked Bannerfish thrives in well-established aquariums with stable water conditions, making it a beautiful and manageable addition for aquarists with moderate experience. It also does well in groups, so keeping them in small schools can promote natural behavior and add to their visual appeal in the tank.
