Moorish Idol
Moorish Idol
Zanclus cornutus
Reef Safe with Caution
The Moorish Idol, scientifically known as Zanclus cornutus, is an iconic and visually stunning marine fish recognized by its striking black, white, and yellow bands and its elongated dorsal fin. This species is revered for its beauty but is also known for being challenging to care for due to its specialized dietary needs and sensitivity to changes in water conditions. While it is generally considered reef safe, it may nip at corals, particularly soft corals and sponges. The Moorish Idol requires a spacious, well-established tank with plenty of live rock for grazing and pristine water quality. Best suited for experienced aquarists, it makes an impressive addition to large, carefully maintained reef tanks.
These fish are for saltwater aquariums only.
