Reef Safe With Caution

The Pilotfish is a striking and active species prized for its bold coloration and dynamic schooling behavior. Belonging to the Carangidae family, this species can reach up to 4 feet in length and therefore requires a spacious aquarium of at least 300 gallons. In their natural habitat, they inhabit warm coastal waters, reefs, and lagoons, often seen gliding gracefully among coral structures in search of food. Though generally considered reef-safe, caution is advised when keeping them with small shrimp or delicate corals, as their foraging activity may cause accidental disturbance. Pilotfish thrive in groups and should be offered a varied diet of high-quality marine pellets, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood to maintain optimal health and vibrant coloration.
