Chaetodontoplus melanosoma
Not Reef Safe
The Poma Angelfish (Chaetodontoplus melanosoma), is recognized for its sleek dark body accented by a soft splash of light grey behind the eyes and vibrant yellow on the face and fins. Like many large angelfish, this species undergoes a noticeable transformation from juvenile to adult, with young fish displaying additional bold yellow and white facial bands. Growing up to 8 inches, the Grey Poma makes an elegant centerpiece for large fish-only aquariums. A tank of at least 120 gallons with plenty of live rock is recommended, as the species appreciates both open swimming space and secure hiding spots. Though generally peaceful with larger tankmates, it can be aggressive toward other angelfish and is not considered reef-safe due to its tendency to nip at soft and stony corals, invertebrates, and clam mantles. To maintain its health and coloration, offer a varied diet of marine algae, Spirulina, angelfish-specific preparations, and frozen mysis or brine shrimp, fed multiple times daily. With the right environment and nutrition, the Poma Angelfish is a hardy and visually stunning addition to a well-maintained marine setup.
These fish are for saltwater aquariums only.
