The Purple Pincushion Urchin is easily distinguished with its white body and hundreds of short purple spines. An excellent addition to an aquarium’s clean up crew, the Purple Pincushion Urchin scavenges for food and algae on rocks on in the substrate. Though generally solitary animals, they can be kept with other sea urchins as long as enough food is provided. They should be fed dried seaweed if algae levels in the water are low.
