Not Reef Safe
The Stars and Stripes Puffer, or Arothron hispidus, is a captivating fish with its bold pattern of alternating stripes and spots, resembling the stars and stripes of a flag. Despite its striking appearance, this pufferfish is not considered reef safe due to its strong beak-like teeth, which it uses to crush hard-shelled prey, including crustaceans, mollusks, and even corals. In a reef environment, the Stars and Stripes Puffer may pose a threat to corals, clams, and other invertebrates, as well as smaller fish. Additionally, their territorial behavior and potential to grow quite large make them unsuitable for smaller or crowded aquariums. However, they can be kept in larger fish-only tanks with plenty of hiding spots and room to swim. Their fascinating appearance and unique personality make them a popular choice among experienced marine enthusiasts who have the appropriate setup to accommodate their needs.
These fish are for saltwater aquariums only.
