Reef Safe With Caution
The Striped Squirrelfish is a striking nocturnal species known for its vivid red coloration and fine white stripes running along its body. Commonly encountered by divers in Hawaiian waters, this fish brings a bold pop of color and shy personality to home aquariums. Best kept in tanks of 100 gallons or more. While generally peaceful, it can coexist with others of its kind if provided with enough space and shelter to reduce territorial behavior. As a nocturnal predator, it tends to remain hidden during daylight hours and becomes more active after dark. In captivity, it may require some coaxing to start feeding live saltwater shrimp are a great initial choice. Once established, its diet should consist of a mix of chopped marine meats, freeze-dried shrimp, and occasional live food to maintain health and activity. With proper care and a dim, cave-rich environment, the Striped Squirrelfish makes a unique and rewarding addition for aquarists seeking something beyond the ordinary.
