Reef Safe
The Fathead Sunburst Anthias (Serranocirrhitus latus), often simply called the Fathead Anthias, is a vibrant reef fish prized for its unique coloration and gentle nature. Its body is a soft pink, accented with glowing yellow-orange scale edges and facial highlights, while its pectoral and anal fins are delicately trimmed in electric blue.
This species prefers the lower regions of the aquarium, thriving best in deeper tanks that still offer ample surface area for proper oxygen exchange. A dimly lit environment with plenty of caves and overhangs helps it feel secure. Peaceful tank mates like gobies are recommended, and when keeping a group, it's best to introduce all individuals at the same time to minimize territorial disputes.
Fathead Sunburst Anthias, like other anthias, are hermaphroditic—if the dominant male dies, the largest female will naturally transition to take on the role. Once settled in, they do well on a diverse diet of frozen mysis, enriched brine shrimp, and over time, may accept high-quality flake foods. Frequent, small feedings throughout the day suit their active lifestyle. A connected refugium producing copepods and amphipods can also help keep this energetic planktivore healthy and satisfied.
These fish are for saltwater aquariums only.
