Chaetodon mesoleucos
Not Reef Safe
The White Faced Butterflyfish (Chaetodon mesoleucos), often referred to as the Red Sea Butterflyfish, is a striking and relatively hardy species that adapts well to calm, peaceful aquariums. Its body features varying shades of gray overlaid with fine black vertical stripes that give it a sleek, armored appearance. True to its name, it has a bright white face contrasted by a bold black band across the eye.
A tank of at least 80 gallons is recommended to accommodate this fish comfortably, with plenty of live rock for grazing and shelter. While generally peaceful with other species, the White Faced Butterflyfish can be territorial toward its own kind and should be housed with non-aggressive tank mates.
To support optimal health, provide a balanced diet that includes dried seaweed, Spirulina-based flakes or pellets, vitamin-enriched mysis and brine shrimp, and finely chopped meaty fare. This butterflyfish brings both visual elegance and personality to a fish-only marine setup.
These fish are for saltwater aquariums only.
