The Epaulette Tang, known scientifically as Acanthurus nigricauda, is recognized for its distinctive appearance, featuring a body that ranges from gray to brown with striking black markings around the dorsal and tail regions. It has a streamlined shape and a distinctive, slightly elongated tail. This tang is an efficient algae grazer and is generally considered reef safe. It may show some territorial behavior, especially towards other tangs, so it benefits from ample swimming space and live rock for grazing in well-established aquariums. The Epaulette Tang is a unique and functional addition to medium to large reef tanks.
