The Flavo Anthias is a rare and vibrant deepwater species admired for its striking pink and yellow hues, peaceful nature, and graceful movement. Reef-safe and generally uninterested in corals or invertebrates, it’s an excellent choice for experienced aquarists with established reef systems. Due to its deep habitat and limited availability, it’s seldom seen in the hobby, making it a unique and desirable addition. These Anthias can be sensitive when first introduced, particularly to bright lighting and dominant tankmates. Gradually acclimating them to moderate lighting and placing them in the tank before more assertive fish can improve their chances of settling in. Though they can be kept alone, they thrive in small groups and display natural social behaviors, including sex changes, where the dominant female can become male. A well-oxygenated tank with rocky structures for shelter and open swimming space is ideal. Their diet should include frequent feedings of mysis shrimp, enriched brine, and eventually high-quality flakes, with a refugium providing live foods like copepods to support long-term health.
