Plectorhinchus chaetodonoides
Not Reef Safe
The Harlequin Sweetlips is a stunning and dramatic species that makes a standout addition to large fish-only aquariums. It undergoes a remarkable color transformation, from a dark brown juvenile with bold white spots and flowing fins to a lighter adult form covered in dense black speckling. Reaching an adult size of 24 to 30 inches, this fish requires a spacious tank of at least 200 gallons with plenty of swimming room and secure hiding spots. While generally peaceful and compatible with other large species, it is not reef safe and will prey on small invertebrates. Early feeding with live shrimp helps it acclimate, but over time it accepts a varied carnivorous diet including mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and quality pellets. Rare in captivity and striking in appearance, the Spotted Sweetlips is best suited for experienced aquarists seeking a long-lived and captivating centerpiece.
These fish are for saltwater aquariums only.
