Bodianus neopercularis

Not Reef Safe

The Neopercularis Hogfish is a rare and eye-catching species known for its vivid red body and clean white horizontal stripes, one of the few marine fish to display a true red hue. It grows up to 8 inches and requires an 80-gallon or larger aquarium with stable rockwork, open swimming space, and a deep sand bed for occasional burrowing. Hardy and quick to acclimate, this hogfish thrives on a carnivorous diet of chopped shrimp, squid, clams, and enriched frozen foods. While generally peaceful, it can become territorial and may harass smaller fish or consume small invertebrates, making it better suited for fish-only or carefully planned reef setups. As a protogynous hermaphrodite, it may change from female to male over time, adding further interest to its behavior. With its rarity, bold personality, and striking coloration, the Neopercularis Hogfish is a standout choice for experienced aquarists.

These fish are for saltwater aquariums only.

Measurements are measured from the tip of the head to end of the tail.

Approximate Purchase Size: 3 inches
