The Pinnatus Batfish is a striking species best known for its dramatic juvenile form, jet black with vivid orange-edged fins that transforms into a more subdued yet elegant adult with a silvery body, vertical bands, and rounded golden-tinged fins. While undeniably eye-catching, this fish grows up to 18 inches tall, and requires a spacious tank of at least 200 gallons, making it best suited for advanced aquarists with large FOWLR (fish-only with live rock) systems. Juveniles can be delicate and finicky, but captive-bred specimens are hardier, more adaptable, and easier to feed. Over time, the Pinnatus Batfish can become tame, even hand-feeding, and thrives on a varied diet of meaty foods and marine vegetation like nori or macroalgae. With the right environment and care, it can become a bold and interactive centerpiece in a peaceful, well-planned aquarium.
