Pentapodus porosus
Reef Safe With Caution
The Sea Bream is a striking fish displaying a light tan to brown body adorned with pale blue and orange yellow striping, though their vibrant juvenile colors tend to fade with age. Reaching up to 10 inches in length, Sea Breams require a spacious tank 125 gallons or more with plenty of rock structures, caves, and crevices for hiding, as well as open areas for swimming. A deep sand bed is essential, as they naturally sift through the substrate in search of prey. They are not reef safe and will consume any fish or invertebrate small enough to fit in their mouths. Due to their predatory instincts, it's best to keep only one per tank and ensure a tight-fitting lid, as they are known jumpers. Initially, they may resist prepared foods, so start with live options like enriched brine shrimp, grass shrimp, or blackworms before transitioning to a meat-based diet offered multiple times daily.
These fish are for saltwater aquariums only.
